We would really like to see the ability to natively backup at the Hypervisor level. While VMware is a big player here, their dominance is dwindling thanks to Broadcom. I would like to see the following hypervisors natively supported:

• HyperV (2016/2019/2022/2025)

• Nutanix Acropolis

• Scale Computing (We are seeing more and more of this. They only have one provider now, Acronis). This could be a great integration point.

Reasons that Hypervisor level backups are needed (there are probably more, just my initial thoughts):

• VMs/appliances that cannot run the agent

• Quicker restore capabilities

• Ability to convert between hypervisors for customers (IE, VMware to Nutanix/Scale/HyperV or HyperV to Scale/Nutanix etc)

• Faster backups with less impact to the guest VM (IE, memory and CPU usage)

• Potential for coordinated snapshots/backups across multiple VMs to provide an application consistent point in time copy for a multi-tiered application.
